Mrs. Dobson’s English Classes
Students in English 11 have been preparing to present a persuasive speech in front of their peers. They have been learning about credible websites and sources, using good, ol’ fashioned notecards, preparing a well-developed and organized powerpoint, and creating a powerful outline, using Monroe’s Motivated Sequence. This process is similar to what students will be using in a college public speaking class–getting attention, establishing a need, satisfying the need, visualizing the future, and taking action. Persuasive speakers are not born; they are taught to persuade!
