Spanish I is open to all high school students and does not require any previous foreign language instruction. Emphasis is on developing communication skills, accurate pronunciation, real-life application, and appreciation of the Spanish culture. Active oral use of communication is stressed. The study of grammar is basic. A student must pass the previous semester to continue to the next level, or will need instructor approval to continue. Prerequisite: none
Spanish II reviews vocabulary and grammatical structures covered in Spanish I. More advanced grammar and vocabulary are learned. As in Spanish I, active communication in the Spanish language is stressed. Prerequisite: Spanish I with a grade of C or above and/or instructor approval.
Spanish III is a continuation of basic vocabulary and grammatical structures covered in Spanish I and II. More advanced grammar and vocabulary are introduced. The four language skills of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding are emphasized throughout the course. Prerequisite: Spanish I and II with a grade of C or above and/or instructor approval.
Spanish IV uses all of the basic and advanced grammatical and vocabulary skills learned in Spanish I, II, and III. More advanced grammar and pronunciation skills are emphasized. Reading skills are constantly used, and more emphasis is placed on writing. Spanish is spoken in the classroom as much as possible. Prerequisite: Spanish I, II, and III with a grade of C or above and/or instructor approval.
